Today was an eye-opening experience. We visited a children's center run by a South Korean couple. There we played games with the Syrian kids. Trying to communicate with the kids was a little hard but we used hand signals to help us. The Syrian and Lebanese translators were a great help. We did a skit about the Good Samaritan. Josh read the story while our team acted it out. After an hour, we split up and some kids went to soccer practice while the other kids stayed at the center to do arts and crafts.
Later, we went to visit two Syrian refugee families. The first family invited us into their home (a tent made out of metal). They served us hot tea, and we asked questions about their lives and how they got to Lebanon. Our team had to sit in a way that was not offensive to the family. The soles of our feet shouldn't be seen by the Syrian family because it is an insult to them.
Then after lunch, we visited another Syrian refugee family. The family was from Aleppo, and they had to leave because the situation there was getting to be dangerous for them. We asked if we could pray for the families. Each family wanted prayer for their country to be safe so they can go back. The second family shared that we were welcome to come back. We are all the same because God created us the same and in all shapes and sizes.
