Jesus is bigger than the confines of our natural world. He is not limited by time, space, scientific rules or anything else, and He shows up throughout the Bible in supernatural ways. He always has a reason, and He desires a response from us. When the preincarnate Christ appears to Joshua before the fall of Jericho, Joshua asks who He is, and once He identifies Himself, Joshua immediately responds. Not with doubt or fear, but by bowing down and worshiping Him.
