Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement after the Jewish New Year, and it's the one day a year when the sins of the entire nation are forgiven en masse by the High Priest. Included in the offerings of the holiday were two goats. One goat is given to the Lord as a sin offering, and its blood is shed for the forgiveness of their sins. The second goat, the scapegoat, is brought before the people, where the High Priest prays and confesses the entire nation’s sins onto that goat, and then sets it free. It’s a simple picture of Christ and the sacrifice He made for all of us so we could be forgiven.
